Cast Up A Highway

Did You Friend God?

Posted on January 18, 2017 at 7:55 AM

This morning I was looking at some Scriptures in King James Version and others, and it came to me that social media fits right in. We text message all the time, and we convey many thoughts to friends this way. I agree that sometimes it is misused to convey a thought that should be shared face to face, or at least voice to voice (phone call). . . you know those messages you need to make but don’t want the confrontation like~ “I want to break up with you.”

We as a people are getting too far away from each other on a heart level. I recall a syfi book I read eons ago where a society only communicated via a magnified ‘facetime’. They became afraid to be in real presence with each other. Even babies were test tube babies. It was an interesting study combined with a murder mystery plot. However, I digress. It seems like we are headed that way, at least partially, as we try ‘partial communication’ via words appearing on the small screen of an iPhone.

Look around at kids in school, adults in a restaurant, strangers on a bus. . . some say we shall become a race with hump backs from having our heads constantly looking down at a device in our hand. My writing this morning began with a Scripture I saw that gets down again to heart level.

It’s a relationship that is more important than any other. Can it be text created? Well, yes, in a sense. God wrote His text message to us in the form of a book. I can download it on my device and read it. I can even respond to it in text if I want. God’s words are relevant to us today even though they were texted long ago, for He literally put His heart into His words. See . . .

John 1:1-5, 14

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

He knew when the text was created that the words were more futuristic even beyond us. God created them as living words. Yes, because they contain His love for us, they can go right into each individual heart and speak to us there. That is why we can respond to Him in texting too. Just as I am speaking to you by text and you can text back to me. We can respond to God’s love message. The more we become acquainted with His heart thoughts, the greater will be our desire to exchange ours too. This is the verse from the Message Bible Translation that got me going on social media communication:

2 Corinthians 5:16-20 (MSG)

We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don’t look at Him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new.

The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and Him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with Himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins.

God has given us the task of telling everyone what He is doing. We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. We’re speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; He’s already a friend with you.

God wants to “friend you”. Are you going to accept or reject His offer?

                                        AWESOME GOD

Sometimes the terrible awesomeness of God hits me and sends me reeling into deep meditation. It always carries its reward of a new closeness with my God. It happened this morning. In the beginning I was distracted with my mind wandering here and yon. Then I ‘woke up’ and commanded it to return. God is so good! Holy Spirit began to lead me in prayer.

Sorry, my Lord. I come to our meeting this morning with scattered thoughts; help me, Lord, to rein them in. That You even desire to meet with me is so amazing! Deep breath. Moses asked God, “what shall I say when they ask 'Who sent me’?” You responded, “Say the Great I AM sent me.” You, God, are not hemmed in by time. For You there is no ‘was, will be’, there is only I AM. Before You I bow down my heart, my 'who I am' I submit to You; help me become who You created me to be.

Exodus 3:13-14 (AMP)

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? 14 And God said to Moses, I Am Who I Am and What I Am, and I Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you!

  • Footnotes: Exodus 3:15 To know the name of God is to witness the manifestation of those attributes and apprehend that character which the name denotes.

Can you feel the depth of that name? 'I AM' signifies so much ~ timelessness, absolute love, supreme power, unimaginable expansion ~ an incomprehensible being, totally surrounding. There simply are not words to express the grandness of Who our God is. HIS LOVE FOR US  S SO APPARENT IN HIS WORD!

Psalm 91:14 (AMP)

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Isaiah 52:6 (AMP)

Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I Am!

Indeed my God! You are the great I AM! This measures so deep and so high and so wide. You revealed Your staggering magnificence to David, and it comes out here:

Psalm 139:1-10

O Lord, you have examined my heart

and know everything about me.

2 You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

Even when it’s my mind traveling on tangents.

3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.

4 You know what I am going to say

even before I say it, Lord.

5 You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too great for me to understand!

7 I can never escape from your Spirit!

I can never get away from your presence!

8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;

if I go down to the grave, you are there.

9 If I ride the wings of the morning,

if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

10 even there your hand will guide me,

and your strength will support me.

You are always with me.

You will guide me.

You will always be my support. Your strength

upholds me, protects me, supports me.

Lord, You are so good! What a privilege to know You! Thank You that You continue to grow me closer to You. Thank You! I love being together with You, my Lord.
