Cast Up A Highway

Enemy's Deception Of Our Youth

Posted on October 12, 2016 at 5:35 AM

The other day I was with my pre-teen grandkids, and they wanted to watch Harry Potter. So never having seen one, I sat down with them. I’d heard negative things and now I know why. The kids reaction was “I wish I could go to a school like that and learn magic.” My response was, “You have Jesus, the God Creator of the Universe living inside of you. Thats real! This magic is made up fiction and not real. Now satan can cause supernatural things to happen, but do you really want to be a part of evil magic?” Even the thought makes me feel icky inside.

Now I know why the draw of Harry Potter is demonic. On the surface it is well written fiction, but underneath it dismisses the power of God. Kids do not have the discernment to see it, so they get sucked into thinking of the wonders of flying through the air on a broomstick, instead of having Holy Spirit living inside of them empowering them. Scripture says,

Mark 10:27 (NIV)

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”

Life gives us many situations that magic could never handle, but God can. Building relationship with God gives us access to His mighty power which He makes available to us when we trust in Him. Whether our problems involve relationships, mistakes, work, or feelings, whatever, God has the answer and will help us in any situation.

Unfortunately youth often live in the past or the present only and their future is far from their minds. When they face a challenge or a hurt, they have even been known to turn to suicide, because no magic can help them; and they have not come to know God who could help them.

So if you have kids who are hooked on Harry Potter or films like it, I recommend that you either steer them away from them, take it away from them, or have a serious talk with them. It is deceptive and insidious invasion of evil into the minds of our young ones. As I said, it causes them to look for magic answers, desire magic abilities instead of knowing God and His immense power that is truly available to them. This is what their hearts should be focusing on.

The devil’s attack is focused on our young, as they are most vulnerable. We can counter it by also focussing on our children. Watch carefully what they see and hear and read, and provide family time to do good encouraging things together.

It may be watching good movies, going to Christian concerts, sending them to Christian youth groups and camps when and if available, attending faith filled church services together, or youth groups connected with them. You can know what is available to you in your place and situation.

God is the answer. Pray for our children. Bless our kids when you put them to bed at night. Take a little time to pray with / for them. Ask God to help you to know the best way to work with your kids, especially teens and pre-teens who are so vulnerable! Holy Spirit is also available to us if we have invited Him into our life when we accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. Having God Almighty as a Guide in life is a powerful force for the successful training of our kids.

The Word of God is also a authoritative and forceful source of strength in life. Obedience to it brings God’s formidable authority into play, and accomplishes great feats in our lives. God’s Word tells us how to be obedient:

Deuteronomy 13:4 AMP

You shall walk after the Lord your God and you shall fear [and worship] Him [with awe-filled reverence and profound respect], and you shall keep His commandments and you shall listen to His voice, and you shall serve Him, and cling to Him.

Cling to Him, my friends, and experience a blessing filled life!

                                        AWESOME GOD

Sometimes the terrible awesomeness of God hits me and sends me reeling into deep meditation. It always carries its reward of a new closeness with my God. It happened this morning. In the beginning I was distracted with my mind wandering here and yon. Then I ‘woke up’ and commanded it to return. God is so good! Holy Spirit began to lead me in prayer.

Sorry, my Lord. I come to our meeting this morning with scattered thoughts; help me, Lord, to rein them in. That You even desire to meet with me is so amazing! Deep breath. Moses asked God, “what shall I say when they ask 'Who sent me’?” You responded, “Say the Great I AM sent me.” You, God, are not hemmed in by time. For You there is no ‘was, will be’, there is only I AM. Before You I bow down my heart, my 'who I am' I submit to You; help me become who You created me to be.

Exodus 3:13-14 (AMP)

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? 14 And God said to Moses, I Am Who I Am and What I Am, and I Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you!

  • Footnotes: Exodus 3:15 To know the name of God is to witness the manifestation of those attributes and apprehend that character which the name denotes.

Can you feel the depth of that name? 'I AM' signifies so much ~ timelessness, absolute love, supreme power, unimaginable expansion ~ an incomprehensible being, totally surrounding. There simply are not words to express the grandness of Who our God is. HIS LOVE FOR US  S SO APPARENT IN HIS WORD!

Psalm 91:14 (AMP)

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Isaiah 52:6 (AMP)

Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I Am!

Indeed my God! You are the great I AM! This measures so deep and so high and so wide. You revealed Your staggering magnificence to David, and it comes out here:

Psalm 139:1-10

O Lord, you have examined my heart

and know everything about me.

2 You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

Even when it’s my mind traveling on tangents.

3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.

4 You know what I am going to say

even before I say it, Lord.

5 You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too great for me to understand!

7 I can never escape from your Spirit!

I can never get away from your presence!

8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;

if I go down to the grave, you are there.

9 If I ride the wings of the morning,

if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

10 even there your hand will guide me,

and your strength will support me.

You are always with me.

You will guide me.

You will always be my support. Your strength

upholds me, protects me, supports me.

Lord, You are so good! What a privilege to know You! Thank You that You continue to grow me closer to You. Thank You! I love being together with You, my Lord.
