Have You Got Wimpy Faith?

Posted on February 29, 2016 at 7:30 AM

This morning I was reading in Luke and came across the story of the paralyzed man whose friends could not carry his stretcher through the dense crowd surrounding, Jesus, so they climbed onto the roof of the house, removed some tiles, and lowered his stretcher through the hole they created in the roof down to where Jesus was preaching.

Jesus saw and responded like this:

Luke 5:20-25

When Jesus saw their [active] faith

[springing from confidence in Him],

He said, “Man, your sins are forgiven.”

Of course the Pharisees in the crowd objected,

and so Jesus healed the man to show:

24 But, in order that you may know that the Son of Man (the Messiah)

has authority and power on earth to forgive sins”

—He said to the paralyzed man,

“I say to you, get up, pick up your stretcher and go home.”

And he did.

Jesus had/has the power and authority to forgive sin and heal. So as I began to examine this Scripture, I asked myself about the depth of my belief. In the deepest part of me do I believe that Jesus will heal when I pray?

In the beginning of verse 20 Jesus said, “When Jesus saw their [active] faith [springing from confidence in Him], He said, “Man, your sins are forgiven.”

He saw their “active faith springing from confidence in Him”.

Do I have active faith?

What is active faith?

Thesaurus gives these words as synonyms:

  • vigorous,
  • vital,
  • dynamic.
  • Is my faith “vigorous” “vitally-alive” and “dynamic” (which means: fiery, bold, passionate)

Do these words describe my faith? Or is it

  • lack luster,
  • wimpy, and
  • passive

Wow! This does put truth to the test. How much confidence do I have in Jesus to heal now? This is a real truth test, and I’m not sure my faith scores very high.

So how do I work on my faith becoming more vigorous? I’d like to share one way I believe my own personal faith has become more bold. Since I was a small child I’ve learned that I serve a triune God~ three persons in one God=Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I am~ body, soul, and spirit~ similar, but not the same.

Father God drew me personally to Himself first, and I came to know Him as my Creator God who is a true loving Father. Like a child I could crawl up in His lap and get a hug anytime I needed it.

Then I came to have a relationship with my Savior, Jesus. I am so thankful to Him for what He did out of love for me. He took on harsh, humiliating, and cruel suffering to pay my sin debt. I could never have stood it, so He did it for me. How much can a man love his brother but to lay down his life for him? Well Jesus did this and more. The physical pain and mental, emotional torture as well were on Him, and He took it for me. I am cleansed of my sin thanks to Jesus! I am so thankful and I love Him!

Next I found that Holy Spirit is indeed a Person, not with a physical body, but He is the third person of the Trinity. He has characteristics like any person does with ability to love, be hurt, and help those beloved ones. Last year I "met" Holy Spirit and found that He really really loves me, and He will never ever leave me. I talk to Him all day long. Our relationship is dynamic and vigorous. He leads me and guides my steps; He also convicts me, so I can become more as Father God designed me to be. He is like the "guardrails" (like the book says) that keep me on my highway to the heart of the Father.

Recently Holy Spirit has been giving me guidance when I pray for people, and then I know what I pray shall come to be, as Jesus promises come true. I'm looking forward to my faith growing more dynamic, and it is Holy Spirit who leads me through this process. How truly complex and amazing is our God! He loves us so much! Have you experienced His goodness in your life recently? How good He is!

SEARCHING FOR A CLOSER WALK WITH GOD

                                        AWESOME GOD

 DIGGING DEEPER

Sometimes the terrible awesomeness of God hits me and sends me reeling into deep meditation. It always carries its reward of a new closeness with my God. It happened this morning. In the beginning I was distracted with my mind wandering here and yon. Then I ‘woke up’ and commanded it to return. God is so good! Holy Spirit began to lead me in prayer.

Sorry, my Lord. I come to our meeting this morning with scattered thoughts; help me, Lord, to rein them in. That You even desire to meet with me is so amazing! Deep breath. Moses asked God, “what shall I say when they ask 'Who sent me’?” You responded, “Say the Great I AM sent me.” You, God, are not hemmed in by time. For You there is no ‘was, will be’, there is only I AM. Before You I bow down my heart, my 'who I am' I submit to You; help me become who You created me to be.

Exodus 3:13-14 (AMP)

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? 14 And God said to Moses, I Am Who I Am and What I Am, and I Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you!

  • Footnotes: Exodus 3:15 To know the name of God is to witness the manifestation of those attributes and apprehend that character which the name denotes.

Can you feel the depth of that name? 'I AM' signifies so much ~ timelessness, absolute love, supreme power, unimaginable expansion ~ an incomprehensible being, totally surrounding. There simply are not words to express the grandness of Who our God is. HIS LOVE FOR US  S SO APPARENT IN HIS WORD!

Psalm 91:14 (AMP)

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Isaiah 52:6 (AMP)

Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I Am!

Indeed my God! You are the great I AM! This measures so deep and so high and so wide. You revealed Your staggering magnificence to David, and it comes out here:

Psalm 139:1-10

O Lord, you have examined my heart

and know everything about me.

2 You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

Even when it’s my mind traveling on tangents.

3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.

4 You know what I am going to say

even before I say it, Lord.

5 You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too great for me to understand!

7 I can never escape from your Spirit!

I can never get away from your presence!

8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;

if I go down to the grave, you are there.

9 If I ride the wings of the morning,

if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

10 even there your hand will guide me,

and your strength will support me.

You are always with me.

You will guide me.

You will always be my support. Your strength

upholds me, protects me, supports me.

Lord, You are so good! What a privilege to know You! Thank You that You continue to grow me closer to You. Thank You! I love being together with You, my Lord.
