Cast Up A Highway

God's "Muscle"

Posted on June 15, 2018 at 5:15 AM

Sometimes we think of the Holy Spirit as this invisible spirit without substance and really unknowable. However, this concept totally changed for me at a powerful service we had one Sunday when Chip Brimm spoke! It impressed a fresh awareness in my spirit as he revealed a new perspective of Holy Spirit! His words were: "Holy Spirit is the "muscle" of God"!  Wow!! And this power of God, this muscle of God dwells in all born again believers! With the "muscle" of God indwelling me, protecting me, why should I ever fear anything?

Chip gave an analogy of a losing basketball coach who so wanted to win, but he kept losing. This coach had Michael Jordan sitting on the bench, but he never played him. Finally, someone showed him the problem, he began putting in Michael Jordan and everything changed!

We have Holy Spirit within us. Is He just sitting on the bench in your life? He was in mine for awhile, but never again. Holy Spirit is third Person of the Trinity. He is God. I'll never forget the morning about a year ago when Holy Spirit told me that He, Himself, as the Third Person of the Trinity, loves me. Holy Spirit loves me. From that startling moment on I've had a totally enjoyable personal relationship with Holy Spirit. He makes me smile! You can have it too!

What Benches the Holy Spirit?

Ephesians 4: 30[MSG]

Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for Himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.

31 [Amp] Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).

These things will bench the Holy Spirit in our lives. They will deprive us of His power.

Put Holy Spirit Back in the Game

Restore His power to us:   32 And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted  (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely],  as God in Christ forgave you.

Also, a more thorough listing of love’s attributes is found in:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (AMP)

Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy,

is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride). . .    Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. . . .

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, it's hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

Studying the intricacies of what is involved in love, and asking Holy Spirit to reveal where we are lacking, will help us increase our Holy Spirit muscle!

Love is absolutely crucial; without love there is no power. All else is worthless if we have not love. Jesus taught us we must love God with all of our heart, soul (mind, will, and emotions), In old Hebrew this word ‘mind’ was actually ‘resources’. So we love God also above everything we own. And we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. These two commandments covered the sum and substance of all the 613 Hebrew laws - past and also in the future.

We must be born again to have Holy Spirit muscle in us. He is the miracle worker! We can only be the vessel in which God works "raising -the-dead power" if we have Holy Spirit muscle surging through us!

Remember love is a requirement; we must get coached in love, learn the complexities of love, the intricate parts of having, showing, and sharing it: the elaborate nature of God’s love. This love encompasses first a loving relationship with God, then love of others and keeps Holy Spirit clout roaring and active in our lives, so He's never just sitting on the bench.

                                        AWESOME GOD

Sometimes the terrible awesomeness of God hits me and sends me reeling into deep meditation. It always carries its reward of a new closeness with my God. It happened this morning. In the beginning I was distracted with my mind wandering here and yon. Then I ‘woke up’ and commanded it to return. God is so good! Holy Spirit began to lead me in prayer.

Sorry, my Lord. I come to our meeting this morning with scattered thoughts; help me, Lord, to rein them in. That You even desire to meet with me is so amazing! Deep breath. Moses asked God, “what shall I say when they ask 'Who sent me’?” You responded, “Say the Great I AM sent me.” You, God, are not hemmed in by time. For You there is no ‘was, will be’, there is only I AM. Before You I bow down my heart, my 'who I am' I submit to You; help me become who You created me to be.

Exodus 3:13-14 (AMP)

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? 14 And God said to Moses, I Am Who I Am and What I Am, and I Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you!

  • Footnotes: Exodus 3:15 To know the name of God is to witness the manifestation of those attributes and apprehend that character which the name denotes.

Can you feel the depth of that name? 'I AM' signifies so much ~ timelessness, absolute love, supreme power, unimaginable expansion ~ an incomprehensible being, totally surrounding. There simply are not words to express the grandness of Who our God is. HIS LOVE FOR US  S SO APPARENT IN HIS WORD!

Psalm 91:14 (AMP)

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Isaiah 52:6 (AMP)

Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I Am!

Indeed my God! You are the great I AM! This measures so deep and so high and so wide. You revealed Your staggering magnificence to David, and it comes out here:

Psalm 139:1-10

O Lord, you have examined my heart

and know everything about me.

2 You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

Even when it’s my mind traveling on tangents.

3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.

4 You know what I am going to say

even before I say it, Lord.

5 You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too great for me to understand!

7 I can never escape from your Spirit!

I can never get away from your presence!

8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;

if I go down to the grave, you are there.

9 If I ride the wings of the morning,

if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

10 even there your hand will guide me,

and your strength will support me.

You are always with me.

You will guide me.

You will always be my support. Your strength

upholds me, protects me, supports me.

Lord, You are so good! What a privilege to know You! Thank You that You continue to grow me closer to You. Thank You! I love being together with You, my Lord.
