Some time ago there was a Star Trek episode where a couple of the crew had vacationed on a planet. They brought back to the ship a new game. You put a device on the head and the eye got pulled by it and a signal went to the brain which sent a pleasure signal to the body. It became quickly addictive until almost all the crew was trapped by it. All they wanted to do was play the game.
One young member managed to escape it and got Data, the android, awakened and together they freed the crew. It seems the whole ‘game’ was to capture the ship after all were seduced by it. Compares to how the enemy works~ he wants to capture our hearts and souls and uses things of the world to do it. Read on~
Proverbs warns us about protecting our heart:
Proverbs 4:23 (Amp)
Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.
A documentary we saw on 20/20 last night reminded me of it.
They interviewed people from young teens to adults who were addicted to their cell phones or to gaming. They did MRI’s of their brains and noticed a drastic negative change. What was created for good can also create great evil. The enemy is licking his chops over this one.
. It becomes their life as some stay up all hours of the night to be connected to “friends”. One girl said, “without my phone I am nothing.” The teen years are a rough road to navigate, and it seems the cell phones have not always been a good addition.
We know the 'world' is controlled by the evil one:
1 John 5:18 (The Message)
We know that none of the God-begotten makes a practice of sin—fatal sin. The God-begotten are also the God-protected. The Evil One can’t lay a hand on them. We know that we are held firm by God;
it’s only the people of the world who continue in the grip of the Evil One.
And we know that the Son of God came so we could recognize and understand the truth of God—what a gift!—and we are living in the Truth itself, in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. This Jesus is both True God and Real Life. Dear children, be on guard against all clever facsimiles.
Gaming has also become addictive to others. They live to play computer games and these games often involve killing and cause them to become insensitive to life. I did not grow up with them, so I do not have the personal experience, but I have seen the results. Some extreme results were brought out after the Columbine shooting where the two murderers were addicted to violent gaming. Others were exemplified on the 20/20 documentary. Kids can become so enamored they lose interest in all else in life; they are captured by the game. They refuse to respect parents, wanting only to return to the 'game. Like the Star Trek episode the enemy is capturing their hearts and souls.
Even adults can get addicted to gaming, where they sacrifice kids, wife, and family life to the screen in front of them. It becomes their god that leads their life. The the devil loves it!
I am writing to you, fathers [those believers who are spiritually mature], because you know Him who has existed from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men [those believers who are growing in spiritual maturity], because you have been victorious and have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children [those who are new believers, those spiritually immature], because you have come to know the Father.
We have one God. It is He we worship! Gaming has become a false god, an idol that many bow before, making it first in their life. Please my friends, watch your children and be aware of the dangers a cell phone or computer game can create. If you have a chance to see this 20/20 documentary, by all means, watch it; I suggest watching it as a family.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.
Our God loves us so much, but the enemy is out to capture and devour every soul it can trap. This is an area that the enemy is vigorously stalking. Be aware! Be wise! Ask God’s guidance and wisdom. Talk with your kids about this and be mindful of their reactions; pray protection over them.
Know that Jesus loves us and will fill us with more joy than any game can hope to give! Jesus wants to give us joy and delight~ see the prayer to His Father just before His capture:
John 17:13 (AMP)
But now I am coming to You; and I say these things [while I am still] in the world so that they may experience My joy made full and complete and perfect within them [filling their hearts with My delight].
