Good morning Holy Spirit! Praise be to You!
Again this morning I am greeted with soft pink clouds. They almost seemed to be saying~ Spring is coming! But I know that cold winter weather is working up some more snow and chillin! And that’s ok, because it’s the story of life. There is a demon trying to blast all the King’s kids off of His highroad. But Jesus, the Son of God, has us securely by the hand with no intent of letting go.
Jesus Loves us dearly, and He is the Good Shepherd. We are the sheep of His pasture. Jesus loves us and cares for us and John 10 puts the meaning so clearly:
John 10: 1-6 (NIV)
“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. Only Jesus can be our true shepherd.
3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him, because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. We hear the voice of our true Shepherd and follow Him. Our obedience brings rewards, for Jesus always leads us down the best path for us to travel walking it with us. We can depend on Him and trust Him. A BFS Bible study gives a great description of our relationship as “organic, authentic, and eternal like the connection between the Son and the Father”.
He calls us by name; we belong to Him. Another Bible verse that tells us this is
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you [from captivity];
I have called you by name; you are Mine!
This is so deep; take it in~ Our relationship with God is personal! He ‘knows’ our name meaning He knows each of us completely~ all our thoughts, our strengths and weaknesses; He knows the anxieties we have, even those that came from our ‘raising up years’. He calls us by name! His love is constant, deep and abiding.
9 [Jesus says]“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
11 “I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
In the summer the sheep pens have stone walls and an opening~ no gate. The Shepherd himself sleeps across the opening and becomes the gate. Jesus is our Gate; He is our guard and protection through the dark times as well as through our sunshiny days. He is our only Gate into God’s Kingdom. 14 “I am the Good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to My voice, and there shall be one flock and one Shepherd.
Jesus is our Shepherd who takes care of us, leads us to pasture for food and rest; He protects us from the devil wolf who seeks to steal us away, kill, and destroy us. Jesus is our true Shepherd who laid down His life for us; His crucifixion paid our penalty, and we gained His righteousness. Our Shepherd gives us, His sheep, a peace that permeates our life when we hear His voice and follow Him; He gives us security:
John 10:28 NIV
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
no one will snatch them out of my hand.
