Brrrr. Cold. Air almost hurts to breathe it’s so freezing! I hurry to my car and climb in out off the wind, but it’s not much warmer. Turn on the engine; let’s generate some heat in here! Thank God for gloves that don’t allow the cold of the steering wheel to penetrate. And thankfully my car has an excellent heating system! Soon I am warm enough for my body to relax. Other thoughts begin to spring up. . . like what’s the best road to my destination? Do I have everything, you know, like my phone, and my water and the gift of food I am taking?
[But who am I thankful to? Who helps me keep everything together? My God, and He is so good, plus He really really loves me a lot! He loves you too!]
Seems more and more I have to be taking count before I leave home to be sure I’ve brought what I need. Guess my brain is crammed with all the knowledge I’ve gained over the years, and I need to file things away to open up space for the new. Past is after all gone for good; I take the helpful things from it to compile a ‘keep current’ folder in my brain, and leave the rest. After all, the future is what is important.
What has God got for my future? I know from His Word that even though my youth has been left mostly behind [I say mostly because there is still a lot of kid remaining in me] He has good plans for me:
Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP)
For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope.
Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
God’s got me, so I can feel an edge of excitement creeping up in my spirit. Not sure what He has in mind for the New Year, just know it is good, because He is good and He loves me! How do you look at the future? Are you seeing the hope?
When I come humbly before my God in reverence and respect, we talk about many things. He teaches me, admonishes me, laughs with me, and tells me how much He loves me. Yes, it’s usually Holy Spirit that chats with me. You see, often coming to God is yielding to the Holy Spirit, welcoming the Holy Spirit. He is the one who puts up the guardrails on our life highway, so we can stay stable on the journey we have been given to walk out. When we have this relationship with God, in our hearts we know what to do. You see Holy Spirit is always speaking and always leading us every minute of every day. On our part we keep open our ears and hearts to hear more of His message to each of us. More of Him leads to more love, agape love~the God kind of love ~filling us to the point where it overflows upon others. The closer we get to Him, the less chance we have of falling into offense. Offense is the opposite of love. If we are offended by someone, we need to spend more time with God to fill up on His love. It will overpower the offense and allow forgiveness to cleanse out the hurt and resulting anger of the offense, so God-love can begin to flourish there again.
Remember it is the enemy who will build up coldness in our spirits. It will always find a way to put a crack in relationships if he can. So we have to keep our eyes open for his interference in our lives. He can be pretty sneaky and mean. But God’s love will overcome all; so we continue to strive to allow His love to fill our hearts and flow through us, so it can secure forgiveness in our hearts ~ can scrub away the hurt.
If you are in that position now of feeling affronted by another, seek God’s help, because if the hurt is deep, you may not be able to allow forgiveness to wash away the pain and return to love on your own. But nothing is impossible with God; His love conquers all! Let's enter 2017 with a soul washed clean of unforgiveness, so it is the beautiful love of the Savior that fills our hearts and guides our journey through this New Year!
