My spirit has been yearning for something; this morning it came clear~ holiness, peace and quiet joy. Where do I find this in the hustle and bustle of this season? It is a beautiful time to celebrate the birth of a Savior! Why all this pressure and busyness? It does not belong!
Decided to go to my quiet place and close my eyes. It’s late evening as I find myself in a crowded busy city of long ago; it's full of travelers looking for their lodging. Sun has left and stars are lighting the darkening sky. I amble down the road and enter the path reaching out into a field. My eyes see dimly a structure softly glowing in the dark pasture. Yes, it is the stable I was searching out. Town noises fade as I come close to the stable. A gentle light seems to emanate forth and peace surrounds. A woman has recently given birth; she sits leaning against a bale of hay smiling down at the babe in her arms. The simple joy of Mom and Dad at the birth of their Son cannot be missed. Sitting at the edge of the stable my back against the wall, I find my eyes refuse to move from the tiny sleeping child. Memory of a scripture appears and I see this grown up Lord deeply asleep in the back of a boat. His friends were in a panic because a storm is roaring about them; finally as a huge wave crashes down, they wake Jesus. "Master help us! We are surely drowning.” Coming awake Jesus says, "Did I not say we are going to the other side? Why do you doubt my words? O ye of little faith". Then He stands up and commands the wind and the waves, “Peace, be still”, and they obey.
Matthew 8:23-30 (NIV)
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
As I sit there, Mary smiles at me. My storm is raging too, but Jesus’ promises are true! And I hear His voice, “Peace, be still. I am with you.”
My escape into the quiet of the holy night fills me with peace. I’ll come back for another visit.
May His peace cover you, my friends.
