Lost in a swamp. It’s dark and dank. Vines hanging down. Stepping on sinking ground; feet wet. Smell of rotting vegetation pervades the atmosphere. Frogs and snakes jump and slither on the wet roots. Where o where is the way out of this stinking place? Seems like hours I trudge on searching for light. If only I had a rock, a solid place to stand!
That was where I was emotionally on this day long ago. Depression painted my world. . . until God evolved in my mind an answer to my prayer for a solid place to stand: a Scripture which reminded me that Jesus is my Rock:
1 Corinthians 10:4 (AMPC) And they all drank the same spiritual (supernaturally given) drink. For they drank from a spiritual Rock which followed them [produced by the sole power of God Himself without natural instrumentality], and the Rock was Christ.
And the light suddenly dawned, and I found myself standing on a large rock looking over the swamp. Of course, Jesus is my Rock; He is my foundation; He is my steady strong place, my tower of protection and strength! Thank You Lord for bringing this Scripture to my mind, this remembrance of truth. I no longer was in a dark dank place! The truth of Christ delivered me immediately into the light of joy.
I remember one time after Jesus fed the 5000, He walked on the water to the apostles in their boat, and a storm arose; once they invited Jesus into the boat, what happened?
John 6:18-21 (NIV)
A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
My friends, God loves us so much, He wants to always be available to help us. We just need to know that, and avail ourselves of His promises, that is, invite Him into our boat.
if you ever find yourself slipping down into the darkness of depression, remember to ask God for help. Know He is able and more than willing to bring us out into the light. We all have those times when we are challenged, and you can be sure the enemy will try to manipulate us into thinking depressive thoughts! But God is right there to help if we just invite Him into the situation, whatever it is. Nothing is impossible for God! He loves us and will always bring things about in our best interest! Trust in Him!
Matthew 19:26 (AMPC)
But Jesus looked at them and said, With men this is impossible, but all things are possible with God.
