The sun is out in full force now, and the air is warm, so I can climb less encumbered by heavy clothes. Setting out with joy and confidence, the next leg of my journey feels lighter.
Then I round a corner and the view is a little daunting: a rugged climb for me, perhaps not for younger climbers, but for me. . . yet I’ll not allow the view to discourage me; I’ll remember who boosts my soul and goes out ahead of me to prepare the way; I put a smile on my face and begin the day’s trek.
It is a rugged way to go, but the victory is mine. Jesus won it for me 2000 years ago. About 45 minutes into the climb, I was breathing hard with muscles feeling tired. This type of exercise is not usual for me. I stop, sit on a huge boulder and sip some water. The view is extraordinary. Resting for a few minutes, I munch on an energy bar. [When I feel my spiritual energy waning through struggles, God’s Word is my energy bar. I take time to talk with Holy Spirit, rest and imbibe in His Scriptures; that refills my tanks.]
The break is over, and I once again examine the mountain to find God’s trail to the top. He guides my vision to an opening in the boulder laden ways ahead; with a deep breath, I’m off again. This course really challenges with it’s constant climbing over huge rocks. One in particular I come to is climbable I can see, but scary as the hand hold and foot steps are narrow.
“Lord, this is scary, because if I slip the landing will be dangerous and possibly a long fall.”
Nahum 1:7 (NKJV)
The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him.
I sense a smile in His words: “And I am not powerful enough to keep you glued to the rock? I AM with you, Mary. Focus on Me! Do not allow the enemy to put deceptive pictures in your mind. Trust in Me!”
“Yes Lord. Sorry for that slip in confidence.
You indeed indwell me and can and will take care of me anyplace that You send me.”
Ok, it’s onward! One hand hold, one footstep at a time. God helps me find each niche for my progress. Near the top I make the mistake of looking down, and fear again attempts to grab my mind. “Lord my arms are really tired.” But my God is faithful, and I hear the whisper of my Savior~ “I am with you!”.
Proverbs 18:10 (AMPC)
The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the [consistently] righteous man [upright and
in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high
[above evil] and strong.
Lord, You are so good to me. I trust in You! Certainty renewed, I look again and spy a narrow but perfect handhold plus a lip for my feet. It takes me to the top of the rock. . . Interesting, it just struck me~ Jesus is the Rock!! He takes me everywhere I need to be. He goes before me and prepares the way. He enables me to conquer every situation with His help. I yell out “YES LORD!!” Looking around I see a somewhat easier leveled out area and begin to walk toward it.
God’s beauty surrounds me in His joy and peace. There is a nice flat rock to rest on and have a late lunch.
Psalm 16:5 Living Bible
The Lord himself is my inheritance, my prize. He is my food and drink, my highest joy! He guards all that is mine.
Soon I'll have to begin looking for a place to spend the night. This part of the day took longer than I anticipated. But I trust the Lord to lead me to a place of His keeping. Meanwhile I wish you, my friends, a day in God's keeping.
