Some years ago my husband gave me this poem as an anniversary present to express his love for me:
Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote this sonnet to her love many years ago~
How do I love thee?
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, -- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! -- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
What a sweet gift! A tribute to love. When we have truly loved another, we, as humans, can identify with the feelings she was able to put into words. But do we fully understand that our God is love? When He breathed His life into Adam, and when He awakes us with His breath of life, love flows into us. He loved us before we were born and He loves us now. Have you connected with His love? Jesus' life and death on the cross is the greatest gift of love! God Himself comes to save us from satan’s evil clutches. Jesus brings us freedom and life everlasting. Indeed we are alive with His love and grace. Have you ever had a big debt and finally gotten it paid off? Didn’t that feel wonderful? What a”load off your shoulders”! We as Adam’s progeny owe a debt to God; for Adam's treason against God flows through the bloodline to everyone of us. Sin nature is born into us. To rescue us Jesus came and suffered and died in our place to remove us from that evil debt inheritance. So when we accept Jesus' gift, and ask Him to be Lord of our life, our very nature is changed; we now have Gods DNA in us. We have Jesus through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us; we are reborn with a love nature.
Many Scriptures voice His deep love for us. This Psalm is one~
Psalm 31:19-20 (AMP)
How great is Your goodness,
Which You have stored up for those who [reverently] fear You,
Which You have prepared for those who take refuge in You,
Before the sons of man!
20 In the secret place of Your presence
You hide them from the plots and conspiracies of man;
You keep them secretly in a shelter (pavilion)
from the strife of tongues.
God has good things stored up for us that He is eager to dispense. He invites us into His Presence keeping us secretly in His shelter to protect us. It’s a one-on-one experience with our Father who treasures us; we can rest in His Presence and experience a closeness as we share our thoughts together.
If you remain in Me and My words remain in you
[that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart],
ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.
8 My Father is glorified and honored by this,
when you bear much fruit, and prove yourselves to be My [true] disciples.
9 I have loved you just as the Father has loved Me;
remain in My love [and do not doubt My love for you].
Jesus invites us to abide in Him and have His Word remain in our hearts. This means having a relationship with Him where we are always aware of His presence indwelling us, speaking with Him throughout the day. We can develop this closeness by setting special time aside each day to spend with Him. Isn't it true that to build a friendship, we spend time together with someone? To build this connection with Jesus we do the same. My friends, God loves us so dearly! Seek His face. Be in His Word, digest it as a great feast. Ask Him to teach you through it. Being in a love relationship with God is tremendous joy. If you do not know this joy, I invite you to jump in and begin today.
