So what does this Lenten season mean to you?
Isaiah 53:1-10 (AMP)
Who has believed [confidently trusted in, relied on, and adhered to] our message [of salvation]?
And to whom [if not us] has the arm and infinite power of the Lord been revealed?
2 For He [the Servant of God] grew up before Him
like a tender shoot (plant),
And like a root out of dry ground;
He has no stately form or majestic splendor That we would look at Him, Nor [handsome] appearance that we would be attracted to Him.
Father You sent Your beloved Son to us that He might teach us about You, so we could know You as a loving Father and worship You as our Almighty God. Oh my God, I bow down before You in awe at the greatness and power of Your love!
Father, You so loved the world (that’s you and me, friend) that You arranged to have our sin debt paid in full at the incredible cost of Your Son’s agony and death. Now we can be totally cleansed from our sin by recognizing our need for redemption, accepting Jesus gift to us, and inviting Him to be Lord of our lives. We’re cleansed and so pure that we can come close to You, Father, and we have the immense privilege of being in Your Presence. I am whole in Your Presence! It is peace and love, calm and excitement, joy and challenge. You want the best for me in every area of my life. My very existence is proof of that, for You created me and wrote my name in the Lamb’s book of life assuring my eternity with You. I love you so much, my Father!
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and pain and acquainted with grief;
And like One from whom men hide their faces
He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or esteem Him.
But [in fact] He has borne our griefs,
And He has carried our sorrows and pains;
Yet we [ignorantly] assumed that He was stricken,
Struck down by God and degraded and humiliated [by Him].
How many today see Jesus this way? He is despised and rejected by people in this day and age. He came for us, yet we arrogantly turn away from Him. He spent His life to bring us life; how many disregard this great gift? In His time on earth He went through disappointments, rejections, betrayals, sorrows, humiliation. He experienced all sorrows like we go through during our time on earth. He knows our suffering and He can bring comfort to our weeping souls.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing];
The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him,
And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray,
We have turned, each one, to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the wickedness of us all
[our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]
To fall on Him [instead of us].
Our evil thoughts, wrong-doings, bringing hurt to others, all our sin great and small are spurred on by our sin nature that follows satan; sins can be erased and our soul washed clean and pure by repenting of our wrongs and accepting Jesus’ gift of salvation. When we accept Jesus as our Savior and ask Him to be the Lord of our life, our vary nature is transformed. We become God’s kids with His DNA as our nature. We are freed from the chains of sin that bound us to evil. We are free to choose goodness and bask in God’s glory. Our eyes and ears will now be opened to receive and know truth. When we encounter any trials or troubles, we have a Helper to bring us to victory.
He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He did not open His mouth [to complain or defend Himself];
Like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before her shearers,
So He did not open His mouth.
After oppression and judgment He was taken away;
And as for His generation [His contemporaries],
who [among them] concerned himself with the fact
That He was cut off from the land of the living [by His death]
For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke [of death] was due?
Because of His commitment to us, He allowed Himself to be falsely accused and accepted the punishment that was required by our debt. For you and me He was cruelly scourged and humiliated, painfully nailed to a tree and hung up to die in anguish. It was our crimes that required that punishment, but He took it for us. He knew it was the only way we could be saved from satan's hellish eternity, and He was willing to do it. It only takes our repentance and acceptance of His gift to be assured of an eternity with Him.
His grave was assigned with the wicked,
But He was with a rich man in His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.
Yet the Lord was willing
To crush Him, causing Him to suffer;
If He would give Himself as a guilt offering
[an atonement for sin],
He shall see His [spiritual] offspring,
He shall prolong His days,
And the will (good pleasure) of the Lord
shall succeed and prosper in His hand.
There is our marvelous truth! We are stupendously loved by our God! He has provided the Way for a life of joy, and an eternity of amazing wonders! Almost can’t wait! :))
