Very early one morning while camping in the mountains, the chilly air and lumpy ground awoke me. I struggled into my jeans while still in the warm sleeping bag, then climbed out and grabbed for my jacket. Sneaking out of the tent I found the sky was lightened just enough to see around the campsite. Happily I began racing up the trail to try and get to the top before the sun got up. My goal was to watch the sunrise.
However, my God had other plans, for the sun peaked over the mountain as I was still scrambling upwards.
Suddenly along the path came an old fallen tree whose frosted roots were catching the rays of the rising sun! Stunned by the breathtaking beauty of the scene, I stopped and stared open-mouthed at the remarkable display of God’s glory. It seemed as tho each drop of frost embodied a rainbow and the whole dead tree came alive. I stood watching the scene until the sun rose farther in the sky and the tree went back to sleep. The scent of coffee called me down to the campsite, but I’ll never forget God’s gift that morning.
Holy Spirit smiled at the memory and reminded me that in the scheme of things, our time on earth is momentary.
James 4:14 (AMP)
Yet you do not know [the least thing] about what may happen tomorrow.
What is the nature of your life? You are [really] but a wisp of vapor
(a puff of smoke, a mist) that is visible for a little while
and then disappears [into thin air].
The jeweled tree could display its glory for only a short time as it reflected the sun's rays. My time on earth is also limited, but my spirit shimmers in the rays of the Son. When I choose to accept the saving gift Jesus’ blood bought for me, and I invite Him into my heart to live His Holy Spirit life in me, my soul appears covered with jewels in the spirit world. The big difference is so long as I live for Christ, the shining of my spirit continues as I pass from this world to my eternal home.
Is your spirit reflecting the Son's rays? Have you accepted Christ as your Savior yet? Invite Him in today, for we never know what tomorrow brings! And I'd love to meet you in heaven one day!
