Holy Spirit Is My "Key"

A memory takes me back to some fun times growing up. There were mostly guys in our neighborhood, and I was just one of the ‘guys’ playing all the sports~ baseball, football, basketball in season. Our playground was the street and since it was a dead-end street traffic was light.

One occasion remains riveted in my memory. I remember waking up one morning to a strange sound. I was about 8 at the time and a happy little tomboy, but at this strange noise I sprang from my bed and ran to the big picture window overlooking the woods behind our house. What I observed brought forth a shout for my Mom! There was a huge machine knocking down my trees! “Mom”, I cried, “quick, call Dad! He can make them stop!”

You see at that time I thought my Daddy was like God; he could do anything; but, alas, this was beyond his power to halt, and my beloved woods was gobbled up by progress. I guess, as kids, we instinctively knew the philosophy of making lemonade out of lemons, for this huge construction site became our new playground. As the houses grew, we discovered new tests of our ability and agility as we climbed all over them from the ground to the roof.

The Holy Spirit reminded me this morning of one challenge: the houses had grown to the stage where the rooms had walls and doors. The doors had the handle mechanism but no door knobs. If one was in a room and the door closed, there was no way to open it up. Our challenge was to find a small piece of wood to fit in the opening mechanism, turn it and voila! the door would open. Consequently, all the kids ran around with little pieces of wood in our jeans pockets. It was our key to escape being trapped.

Holy Spirit just spoke softly to me: I am Your Key now. Keep me close, and I will always save you from getting caught in satan’s traps. I freed you from his clutches once, now I can strengthen you to avoid his wily ways of deception, to perceive his slicked tongue words with discernment. Keep me like that piece of wood in your pocket, ever close and get to know Me, for I am your Advocate, Your ever-present Standby, your Strengthener, and more:

John 14:15-16 (AMP)
If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands.
16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby),
that He may remain with you forever

Holy Spirit is always with me now. I have gotten to know Him and enjoy the intimacy of our relationship. I go to Him with every problem, with any hurt, or when I need guidance. He can be trusted to always answer me (and you), because He loves me personally. He calls me by my name. I love Him!

Holy Spirit is our Key to a life of success and joy. Yes, we can live through any situation with His joy in our hearts. (See chapter 10 in Cast Up A Highway). Are you ready to get to know Holy Spirit more intimately?
