Read a great word from the Bible the other day talking about Paul and his journey in Acts 27-28. A vicious storm wrecked the ship Paul was on, but God promised Paul all on board would survive. Then in Acts 28 we see the crew safely reaches the shores of Malta and the natives are very kind to them:
Acts 28:2-6 (MSG)
2 . . . The day was rainy and cold and we were already soaked to the bone,
but they built a huge bonfire and gathered us around it.
3-6 Paul pitched in and helped. He had gathered up a bundle of sticks,
but when he put it on the fire, a venomous snake,
roused from its torpor by the heat, struck his hand and held on.
Seeing the snake hanging from Paul’s hand like that,
the natives jumped to the conclusion that he was a murderer
getting his just deserts. Paul shook the snake off into the fire,
none the worse for wear. They kept expecting him to drop dead,
but when it was obvious he wasn’t going to,
they jumped to the conclusion that he was a god!
That snake stuck on his hand. . . that bad report, that curse, that poison spoken against you. . . are you allowing it to stick to you? See what Paul did?
Paul shook the snake off into the fire unharmed.
We can do the same thing!! Shake off those negative words spoken against us, those bad memories that bring shame, the enemy's attacks on our mind! Paul knew where God had told him to go, God's plan for him; nothing would stop him. The same is true for you. Know that God has a good plan for your life and He will help you to fulfill it:
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future
You either know God has spoken a plan into your life from the Bible, or because He has spoken directly to you. The Word says His plan is a good plan, not for evil! So any evil report spoken against you is contrary to God’s will for you and with Jesus, you can shake it off!
Paul shook the poisonous snake off his hand having no ill effects. So we too can shake off past predictions, mistakes, negative thoughts, or history that comes against us. We can shake it off and confidently move forward with God’s will. Focus on what the Word says, on God’s promises. If the evil one attacks, rest in the Word of God and trust in Him to take care of you and the situation.
Enough of thoughts of ourselves only. . . In these end times God has given the Body of Christ a huge part in the play of life. There are many unsaved in this world. They could be your brother-in-law, or a neighbor, a good friend, a son or daughter, or another family member. You know the unsaved will spend eternity in a hell of pain and anguish~ who should you be talking to, praying for? No excuse is good enough! How would you feel being in the comfort of heaven and seeing a loved one in hell when you could have spoken to them about Jesus? My friends, do not tarry; do not fear! We are all called to be ambassadors for Christ~ that means carrying His will, His words, His mission to the world! You may or may not be called to go to foreign lands to speak the Gospel, but we are all called to speak to those we know who are unsaved. If you are afraid~ SHAKE IT OFF!
God does not desire that any should be lost! Do you know Jesus? If not, you can begin your life of intimacy with God by recognizing that you have sinned [told lies, cheated on taxes, looked with lust at another, gossiped, said something mean to another, etc] we all are sinners. The good news is that Jesus paid for our sins; He sacrificed His life in our place enduring the incredible torture of the cross~ for you and me. Make the choice today. Choose to repent~change your ways. Be sorry for your sins and accept Jesus wonderful gift of paying the debt for all our transgressions, and invite Him to come live in your heart forever. He will come and your sins will be washed away. You can enjoy a life of certainty that the God of the universe, whom you serve, loves you immensely and will help you live a good life with much joy.
Don’t wait another day! If you don’t know Jesus, pray as above; if you do know Jesus, begin to pray for the unsaved and ask God to help you speak with those you know who need to hear about Jesus.
