While driving a highway through the orange cones in an unfamiliar city, my exit came up suddenly; quickly I swerved onto it which carried me onto another orange coned highway; however, there was no warning that traffic was coming from the right just at the edge of the entrance (no merging lane). I thank God that my reflex was always to glance to the right as well as the left, for the glance revealed an image of motion. Jamming the brakes hard, I was able to pull over slightly and come to a sliding stop, thus preventing my car from having an intimate experience with a speeding semi truck. It was so close, I had to wait a moment to catch my breath and steady my shaking hands. I always pray for the protection of God’s angels when I drive; thankfully, they have never failed me!

Some people scoff at the idea of angels, but did you know that angels really do exist and that they will help us? Angels of the Lord appear throughout the Word of God, and He tells us about them:

Psalm 91:11-12 For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways
[of obedience and service].
12 They shall bear you up on their hands,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

God loves us so much that he does not leave us alone in this world where evil wars against God's children. Besides making His angels available for us, He has promised that He Himself will always be with us.

Psalm 73:23 (NIV)
Yet I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.

    Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you;
He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

As we journey through life, all good things are available to us, so long as we serve the Lord. We know how to do this by reading His Word, the Bible. Each day we will want to have an appointment marked off for time to spend with our God. As we pray (talk with Him), and read His Word, we will discover a road to friendship and intimacy with Him; a true relationship will bloom.

Have you had an “angelic” experience? Do you have a close bond with the Lord? If you’re looking for a way to build one, the book, Cast Up A Highway has some excellent suggestions.
