Jace is a high school football hero; popular at school. . . Yet laying in his bed at night, his thoughts are captured and fed schemes of the evil one. . .
Jace feels like he is wondering in a desert all dry and sandy. No roads to guide; no map to follow. How do I get out of here? No matter the desert is in my soul; still it is a purposeless wondering if I have no landmarks. What is this life? Why am I even here? Why was my brother Jimmy killed by that car accident? No answer to the whys. The pain of the outside world crushes me, and I have no answer, no relief. It’s hopeless; no one really cares. There seems to be no reason to stay.
Then in the distance an object appears, and curiosity draws his staggering feet towards it; looks like the shape of a cross standing on a dune. Crawling up to the object he observes a human form being whipped by the wind and the sand. Its face is sand crusted, eyes nearly closed. Jace goes closer and touches the form to see if it is real and alive. His hand comes away bloody and he notices the many wounds the sand had filled in on the body. His bloody hand feels a deep warmth spreading through his fingers.
Confused but intrigued, “Who are You?” Jace questions. A voice, a whisper in his mind quietly speaks, “I Am Who I Am. I created You Jace, carefully formed you in your mothers womb with love and a purpose. Yes, you are my dear son, Jace! I love you!”
Falling to his knees, the young football hero felt the deep warmth from his hand flow like liquid gold up his arm into his heart. Repentance for his lies and sins of the flesh flowed down his cheeks. This is Jesus, the one his friend Susan had told him about, and he had rejected. The warmth of overwhelming love filled Jace that night, as he accepted Jesus into his heart.
No longer was the desert the enemy’s deceitful scheme, a dry and sandy wasteland. Rather it had become a place of discovery, a downloading of truth into his soul, a renewing of life and destiny.
Have you walked the desert journey? Did you find Him? Open heart with eyes to see and ears to hear? Seek and you shall find. God loves us so much! Hear His call.
