In the Bible book of John chapter 14, starting in verse 20 there is an interesting question asked of Jesus and answered by Him. Jesus is speaking with His friends about their spiritual connection. Now we remember that we are spiritual beings who live in a body and have a soul. God is spirit, so we communicate with God on that level. Jesus has a promise for us about our eternal intimate connection with Him and the Father:
John 14:20-30 (AMP)
20 At that time [when that day comes]
you will know [for yourselves] that I am in My Father,
and you [are] in Me, and I [am] in you.
21 The person who has My commands and keeps them
is the one who [really] loves Me;
and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father,
and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him.
[I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.]
22 Judas, not Iscariot, asked Him, Lord, how is it that You will
reveal Yourself [make Yourself real] to us and not to the world?
23 Jesus answered, If a person [really] loves Me,
he will keep My word [obey My teaching];
and My Father will love him,
and We will come to him and make Our home
(abode, special dwelling place) with him.
Jesus promises that He and the Father will come and abide within us and they will have a special dwelling place inside us. Then He adds another layer onto this promise:
25 I have told you these things while I am still with you.
26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things.
And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.
God the Father sends the Holy Spirit to indwell us. Holy Spirit is God. Our God is three-in-One. We are three in one~ we are spirit, body and soul. Our God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When Holy Spirit indwells us~ the whole Godhead indwells us. We live life under the guardianship and leadership of God Himself!
Because He lives within us, we can choose to develop a close and intimate relationship with Him. This happens when we spend time with Him every day. We talk over our lives, our choices, our problems, our victories with Him. We read His Word and He will often guide us to the Scriptures He has especially for us that day. Like the Scripture says, He is our Teacher, our Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Strengthener. What an honor and a privilege it is to live life this way!
Today is my day for being thankful to God for His many blessings. He is a personal God, that is, we can have a very personal relationship with Him. He’s not just a mighty being sitting out in space observing human behavior, or some dictator waiting to smash us down for bad behavior. He is our Father Who loves us so dearly, He sent His own Son to earth to become human so we could learn Who He is; His Son, Jesus, also laid down His life for us. He paid our sin debt laid upon mankind by Adam’s betrayal of Him. That means we can come close to God in our relationship. I love the Scripture in Isaiah that says
Isaiah 43:1 . . . I have called you by your name; you are Mine.
Our God knows us and loves us calling us by name.
When we have a close, inseparable relationship with our God, we know a joy that is above all else. He loves ME personally, just as I am. It’s almost beyond understanding, but it’s truth.
Do you enjoy this relationship with our Lord?
