Lord, there are times when I feel like a small boat adrift in a huge ocean, lost and alone. Underneath the surface swim creatures, some with sharp teeth to tear apart flesh. The sharp toothed creatures are fierce, evil, and much larger than I. The sharp teeth of evil are ignominious thoughts, degrading my self
esteem, trying to pull my emotions down and devour my faith.
Psalm 64:1-6 (MSG) Listen and help, O God. I’m reduced to a whine and a whimper, obsessed with feelings of doomsday.
Floating in my small craft there is a choice~ do I share my fears and thoughts with You, Lord? or do I just try and figure out my situation on my own? Experience has taught me that “on my own” is very limiting without much power. So I choose to come and communicate with You, Lord, seek Your input into my situation. You have everything I need to solve any problem. If I put up my sails, You provide the wind; start the engine, You are the mechanic and provide the fuel. You, my God, have answers that produce favorable results; I do my part and the opportunity for victory always comes.
Psalm 77:13-15(MSG) O God! Your way is holy! No god is great like God! You’re the God who makes things happen; You showed everyone what you can do—You pulled your people out of the worst kind of trouble, rescued the children of Jacob and Joseph.
However, always the indwelling might of Holy Spirit fires up my engine guiding and toughening my resolve for victory. No longer ‘feeling’ like that small craft alone on a huge ocean, but now held by the mighty hand of God.
Psalm 77:16-19 (MSG)
Ocean saw you in action, God, saw you and trembled with fear; Deep Ocean was scared to death. Clouds belched buckets of rain, Sky exploded with thunder, your arrows flashing this way and that. From Whirlwind came your thundering voice,
Lightning exposed the world,
Earth reeled and rocked. You strode right through Ocean,
walked straight through roaring Ocean,
but nobody saw you come or go.
Do you ever find your self captured by negative “feelings”? Do you choose to fight through the storm to Jesus? Go to the Word for help? Rely on the power of indwelling Holy Spirit?
