Mighty rivers flow on this planet. The St Lawrence river is one I’m somewhat familiar with, and it’s beauty is renown as it flows between the islands in upstate New York and Ontario Canada. But as with any large river, there are silent unseen currents beneath the surface.
One day my brother and I were out in a motor boat when it ran out of gas. So we pulled out the paddles, but we were between some islands, and there was a circular current there that would not release us. We used the paddles, we even got in the water to try and have one swim and pull the boat and the other paddle at the same time, however, the pull of the current was stronger than we were. Finally a passing boat recognized we were in trouble and came to the rescue. We caught the rope he tossed and we were towed home. An ignominious return indeed, yet we were thankful to our rescuer.
In reflection I see that life is like a river as it flows along. Except for times of great storms it stays within its boundaries; yet it has many unknown currents beneath the surface. Some are like the one we experienced, where we were trapped and were unable to escape under our own power. I have learned that for me it is my God who comes to the rescue. Sometimes it is through supernatural power, sometimes He uses people.
We live in an imperfect world where the enemy is spreading his evil with glee, because he thinks he is winning. However I have a Word for you, satan, “greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world”! And yes that is you, enemy. My God is greater than you and He loves me more than I can even imagine! So if you choose to come against me, enemy, you are toast!
If I am caught in a weak moment, it does not take me long to recognize your evil cunning and lies, and then I call on my Daddy to come and blow you away with His mighty strength! My Daddy, my Father, my God! You are my Savior in every situation. Jesus You already won the battle against satan. All I have to do is call on Your power flowing through me by the Holy Spirit, and I am as formidable as Jesus Himself, because He indwells me!
Satan, beware if you try to take me on!
How does the enemy come against you? Are you steeped yet in the Word so you can repel him?
