Sometimes I begin my day knowing the Lord has something specific to teach me. Thoughts began this morning with being dissatisfied with my ability to be God-focused throughout the day. My thoughts were: Lord, compartmentalize things or time . . . is this how to keep You in everything? It seems I have a difficult time as this ‘trolley’ gets moving through the day to keep my focus on You. So many stops. Tasks coming in and thoughts going out.
Then He shares with me. . . “spend time at the dawn of the day in intimacy with Me sharing my heart with You and You sharing Your heart with me. Let us speak together.” You say ‘if I spend time with You early in the day, You are with me throughout the day ~ You stay with me; You do it. It’s not up to me to have to focus on You.’ I trust in You to be with me, to guide me, to speak through me during the day, and You do it. Thank You Father.
Next I seek confirmation in the Word from the Holy Spirit. It begins with love, but then see how it speaks of the above subject:
Romans 13:10-14 (MSG) finally adds up to this: Love other people as well as you do yourself. You can’t go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love.
11-14 But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break.
Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!
Indeed, we do not waste a minute; no sleeping half the day away. As we put on our clothes, so we “dress ourselves in Christ” and be up and about early.
We begin with praise and thanksgiving! Awaken the dawn with praising our mighty God!
Psalm 57:7-9 (AMP)
7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is steadfast and confident! I will sing and make melody.
8 Awake, my glory (my inner self); awake, harp and lyre! I will awake right early [I will awaken the dawn]!
9 I will praise and give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations.
The Word confirms our call to open and to close up our day with worshiping our glorious Lord!
Psalm 65:1-8 (MSG)
1-2 Silence is praise to you, Zion-dwelling God,
And also obedience. You hear the prayer in it all.
We all arrive at your doorstep sooner or later, loaded with guilt, Our sins too much for us—but you get rid of them once and for all. Blessed are the chosen! Blessed the guest at home in your place! We expect our fill of good things in your house, your heavenly manse. All your salvation wonders are on display in your trophy room. . .Dawn and dusk take turns calling,
“Come and worship.”
David rose early to cry out to God, showing His hope was in God and God’s Word!
Psalm 119:146-147 (NIV)
I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes.
I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I have put my hope in your word.
Obedience to our Lord and Master brings fulfillment of HIs rewarding promises! See Isaiah 58: “The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard”. That is a promise I have claimed since I was healed of cancer ~ that it cannot sneak back up upon me again, because the glory of the Lord is my rear guard! Also, I count on His covenant Word that any time I call He will answer. He is faithful and this promise is true [see vs 9 below]. Our God is trustworthy and faithful!
Isaiah 58:7-9 (NIV)
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here am I.
Jesus is mentioned many times as being up before dawn. In Mark below, He saw that the apostles were in a challenging struggle on the lake. So He went to them shortly before dawn. . .
Mark 6:47-49 (NIV)
Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and He was alone on land. 48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them.
Shortly before dawn he went out to them,
walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them,
49 but when they saw him walking on the lake,
they thought he was a ghost. They cried out,
One thing we can always count on is God’s faithfulness to His Word. He loves us so much. When we are obedient to His Word, He is just waiting eagerly to be in close relationship with us and fulfill His wonderful promises!
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo,
I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.” Amen
