My Lord, my God You are my focus for life. Even though existence is full of myriads of goals, and opportunities, they are mere distractions from my source, my focus, YOU. Jesus, on earth You made us Your focus; Your life was lived for us. You prepared for teaching us. Then You lived for us. You suffered for us. You died for us. Thank You Jesus for making us the reason for coming to earth; thank You for our blood bought salvation.
Light and dark exist in the natural with day and night. But even in the night, Lord You put a moon in the sky to provide light and stars to enliven the blackness with beauty and wonder. You have a purpose for the two parts of our day. In the brightness everything is in our face. . . family, work, traffic, kids, temptations, must do’s, have to’s, shopping, meetings, friends, money. . .
But when the sun sets and the sky turns black, we’ve been gifted with a time of quietness to rest our eyes and our spirits. In the stillness we find God. He said to us, “Be still and know that I am God” Be still my mind, for in this silence my Lord speaks.
Have you been out on a high hill at night and seen the glory of the heavens? Our spirits lift up and carry us out to wonder among the tiny diamonds. Fantasy? Yes, but with a glimmer of truth; it is uplifting, brings us up out of a pit, a depression, a sadness; sometimes that’s just what we need ~ to allow the beauty of God’s creation to enter into us through our spirits.
In the crazy business of every day, my Lord, You tell us to be calm and return our focus to You, bring You into each moment ~ to replace patience in the tired mom, peace to the stressed out dad, light into confusion, wisdom into problems. Father, Your desire is to bring us into deeper relationship with You, to trust You fully, to establish heart to heart intimacy between us. After this is accomplished we can hear Your instructions for our assignments in the world.
