Such a powerful service we had on Sunday when Chip Brimm spoke! It impressed a fresh awareness in my spirit as he revealed a new perspective of Holy Spirit! His words were: "Holy Spirit is the "muscle" of God"! Wow!! And this power of God, this muscle of God dwells in all born again believers! With the "muscle" of God indwelling me, protecting me, why should I ever fear anything??
Chip gave an analogy of a losing basketball coach who so wanted to win, but he kept losing. This coach had Michael Jordan sitting on the bench, but he never played him. Finally, someone showed him the problem, he began putting in Michael Jordan and everything changed! We have Holy Spirit within us. Is He just sitting on the bench in your life?
What Benches the Holy Spirit?
Ephesians 4: 30[MSG] Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for Himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.
31[Amp] Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind). These things will bench the Holy Spirit in our lives. They will deprive us of His power.
Put Holy Spirit Back in the Game
Restore His power to us:
32 And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.
Also, a more thorough listing of love’s attributes is found in:
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (AMP) Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.
It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.
Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
Studying these intricacies of what is involved in love, and asking Holy Spirit to reveal where we are lacking, will help us increase our Holy Spirit muscle!
Love is absolutely crucial; without love there is no power. All else is worthless if we have not love. Jesus taught us we must love God with all of our heart, soul (mind, will, and emotions), and mind. In old Hebrew this last word ‘mind’ was actually ‘resources’. So we love God also above everything we own. And we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. These two commandments covered the sum and substance of all the 613 Hebrew laws- past and also in the future.
We must be born again to have Holy Spirit muscle in us. He is the miracle worker! We can only be the vessel in which God works raising -the-dead power if we have Holy Spirit muscle surging through us. Remember love is a requirement; we must get coached in love, learn the complexities of love, the intricate parts of having, showing, and sharing it: the elaborate nature of God’s love. This love keeps Holy Spirit clout active in our lives, so He's not just sitting on the bench.
