Protection Comes From Father's Love

Lord God, mighty One Who is more vast than the skies,  Your love, like the sun You created, flows light and warmth upon us. Your creation reflects You.

I recall camping in the mountains long ago. One night about 4:00AM the cold woke me. Climbing out of my sleeping bag, I snuggled into a jacket, and headed out to follow an ascending mountain path. As I climbed up the trail in the just barely light of first dawn, I set my eyes on the top. In the eagerness to reach my goal, I almost missed a fallen tree trunk whose branches created a remarkable design. Then wonder of wonders, the sun peaked over a rock just enough to turn my fallen tree into a glistening spectacle of fascination. For each tiny frozen dewdrop had captured the sunlight and was reflecting its shinning glory. The whole tree was no longer just a dead tree, but had been transformed into a vision of delight. I was compelled to sit on a rock and gaze in wonder. What a gift the Lord gave me that early morning!

I thought I wanted to beat the sunrise to the top of that hill, but God had something better in mind. And isn’t that how He often works? We think we want one thing, but He knows the plans He has for us, and they are always the best! (Can't help but think of us as that dead tree. We too will die, but we also can be reborn into beauty beyond our imagination reflecting the Son's glory!)

In recalling that experience, I realize that in getting  to know the Lord deeper, His love for us speaks out in many ways in our world. Creation works together to show us different aspects of His character. The elements that bring us life often bring us beauty as well ~ rain and sunshine produce lovely sweet scented flowers in myriads of colors. Oceans which bring forth food to eat while  producing waves of power reflecting the constancy and strength of the Creator. Gazing around our world, we see God’s love reflected almost everywhere.

Lingering on love or meditating on Jesus’ love for us, generates peace. God loves each one of us individually, uniquely, and deeply! As this realization becomes at home in our heart, we know that we never need to fear. God protects us as a loving father protects his special child. . . and each child is special and unique.

God’s love is sometimes overwhelming in its depth. He sent Jesus, His Son, to  suffer and die for us. He did this so we would not have to suffer for our sin. Jesus paid our sin debt. In accepting Jesus' gift, we can come right into the Father’s presence, climb on His knee and talk to Him. He is faithful to His promises and holds us close to His heart. Trust in Father God to remove all fears as His smile  bathes us in the warmth of His love; protects us from any onslaught of the enemy, and encourages us to relax in His embrace!
