Pain is a fire in her chest getting stronger as she meditates on the child that’s missing. How to get through this “happy” season without them? How can she celebrate even the birth of the Christ child? The desire is to hide away with the pain and hurt. Keep it locked up in a secret place deep inside. But the ‘place’ becomes a pit that digs itself deeper and darker. How to stop the pain and come out into the light again? In the book Cast Up a Highway it talks about preparing for the storms and hurts of life [Chapter 4]. Then once deeply painful situations do come upon us, realize we cannot handle them alone:
Standing Strong in Hard Times
. . . Spending time with Him will develop intimacy, a relationship that brings a deep knowing about Him and a sharing of His love for us. We need this, because without it, we can be defeated by those dark times that feel like we are all alone, dry, hopeless, and helpless.
Continual feeding of our faith plants surety in our minds and hearts that God is there, an anchor of strength and power. God loves us, and we can overcome negative feelings with His Word. We cannot live by what our feelings are saying; our feelings are not always reliable. We choose to live instead by what the Word says, for the Word always speaks the truth! The Word is a rock we can stand on and trust in. We all need solid places to stand mentally and emotionally, especially when we get hit by bad news, a loss, a disappointment, or a fear.
He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] —Hebrews 13:5
Through any hurt and pain filled situation, in the inner core of the heart lies the answer: a deeper relationship with our God. Only He can reach down into the heart past the ‘feelings’ and bring a balm of healing to the wound, but how to reach that place now when I need it? The enemy distracts in every way possible, but trusting God and voicing heart pain to God is the quickest method that leads through the darkness of pain and back into the light. Will God listen? Holy Spirit is our guide; ask Him for Scripture to help. This morning He gave me Hebrews 10:9-25, and as I meditated on those words, truth was revealed:
(Journal) OK, Holy Spirit so the Word tells me I am cleansed and God remembers my sins no more; thus I can come right up to my Father and speak with Him, and share my heart with Him. Not only am I able, but He invites it, desires it, and loves it when I do, because it shows how totally I trust Him and love Him. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for reminding me of this, for carving the truth in my heart.
This truth means we can shake off guilt and lies of the enemy~as a dog shakes off water after a bath~ and come up out of the pity pit and walk straight into the arms of the Lord in heaven, because He sees me in Christ and Christ in me. I am cleansed and purified and made worthy to be in the presence of the mighty Lord God Jehovah, and not just “be” in His presence, but to commune, to connect, and to conjoin with Him.
Inside the comforting warmth of God's heart, feel Him listening and hearing the cries of hurt and pain; it is consoling, and faithfully He will carry us through it. Our powerful loving God is the answer to any pain in our lives. You can trust Him with yours.
